JSON6 Resources and Links
The official project, related formats, background reading and the community, with only links we can stand behind.
A short list on purpose. JSON6 has a small ecosystem, and we list only resources that exist. We do not link editor extensions, language ports or plugins for JSON6 because we could not verify any. If you know of one, tell us.
Official JSON6 project
JSON6 is developed by d3x0r. These are the project's own pages and the primary source for everything on this site.
GitHub repository
Source code, issues and pull requests for JSON6. MIT licensed.
json-6 on npm
The reference parser. Install with npm install json-6.
README
The feature list, API tables, options and the leading-zero rationale.
Changelog
Release notes for 1.1.3 through 1.1.7, with older entries linked from the README.
Issue tracker
Report bugs and propose features, as the README asks.
Project wiki
Described by the README as a place to track JSON6 support and usage.
Related formats
JSON6 sits in a family. These are the neighbors worth knowing, and our comparison page sets them side by side.
JSOX
JavaScript Object Exchange format by the same author. Builds on JSON6 and adds dates, big integers and more.
JSOX Internet-Draft
draft-buckeyne-jsox-format at the IETF Datatracker. A draft, not a standard.
JSON5
The format JSON6 extends. Specification, reference library and documentation.
JSON: RFC 8259
The IETF standard for JSON, the baseline every JSON6 document must also respect on output.
YAML 1.2.2
The YAML specification, for when you want to leave the JSON family.
TOML
The TOML language specification and documentation.
ECMAScript background
Several JSON6 features follow JavaScript proposals. The README links these two directly.
Numeric separators
The TC39 proposal behind underscore digit separators. JSON6 is slightly looser about placement.
JSON superset
The TC39 proposal that made JSON a syntactic subset of ECMAScript, cited in the README's strict-mode argument.
sack.vfs
A native Node.js addon by the same author that includes a JSON6 implementation, per the README.
Community
The README points to a low-traffic Google Group for news, updates and general discussion, and to the GitHub issue tracker for formal bug reports and feature requests. Questions and general feedback belong in the group. There is no large community around JSON6 and we do not know of a Discord, forum or tagged Stack Overflow community for it, so we do not link one.
On this site
Our own pages cover the pieces the official README only sketches. For the features, the specification overview and JSON5 differences pages go deeper than the feature list. For day-to-day work, the Node.js, TypeScript and browser guides show how to load files, and the tools section collects the in-browser validator, converter, formatter and minifier.
Missing a Resource?
If you maintain something for JSON6, send us the link and we will verify it before listing it.
