Tools and Utilities
Four working browser tools, one small command line converter, and an honest survey of editor support for JSON6.
TL;DR: JSON6 tooling is small, so this page lists only what exists and what we have run. The four online tools work entirely in your browser with the reference json-6 parser. The CLI converts .json6 files to JSON. Editors have no dedicated JSON6 support that I could find; use a JavaScript file association.
Online Tools
Each tool runs locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
What You Can Do Today
JSON6 is a data format with a single reference implementation, the json-6 npm package. Everything on this site that executes JSON6 runs that package. That shapes the tooling landscape:
- Check a file: use the validator. It reports the line and column and also catches text after the first value, which the library's own
parse()ignores. - Produce strict JSON: use the converter for a single document, or the CLI for files in a build.
- Tidy a file: the formatter and minifier re-serialize through the library, so comments are dropped.
- Read JSON6 in code: see the guides for JavaScript, Node.js, TypeScript and the browser.
What is not here: no linter, no schema validator, no Prettier or ESLint plugin and no language server. I did not find any built for JSON6 and would rather say so than list tools that do not exist.
FAQ
Do the online tools upload my data?
No. They run the json-6 parser in your browser and never send your text anywhere.
Is there an official JSON6 formatter?
Not that I found. The formatter here uses JSON6.stringify from the reference package.
Can I use JSON5 tools on JSON6 files?
Only if the file stays inside the JSON5 subset. Back-ticks, underscores, 0b/0o, undefined and array holes are rejected by JSON5 parsers.
